Most people have heard of buzzwords such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data or computer algorithms. In recent years, spectacular progress in these domains have gathered much attention, such as the development of self-driving cars or the victory of alpha-go against the best humans at go. Here I will give a brief introductory overview of what is hidden behind these words. As an example, I will discuss in some details the workings of neural networks
